The Leadership Foundation announces an annual Vernissage, Art Exhibition and debate on and featuring immigrant art in the Nordic region!

 

Exhibition Dates:  February 13th – March 5th, 2010 ( Vernissage:  February 14th, 2010)
Location: Voksenåsen Gallery,Oslo, Norway

Titled “New Nordic Art”, the Vernissage and Art Exhibition recognizes immigrant artists residing in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. It features the work of individuals who have moved to the Nordics from other countries, the exhibition will, through their paintings, photographs and sculptures, present a new and emerging Nordic identity. With this exhibition, Leadership Foundation strives to contribute to the understanding and appreciation of immigrant art, stimulating dialog and reflection within different cultural perspectives in the artistic world and our society today.

Supported by an opening reception event, or “Vernissage”,and debate led by Malika Makouf Rasmussen (week 9)  on "How and What does New Nordic art contribute to the general culture debate ", the exhibition will promote and profile these featured artists as well as make their work available for sale to a large, prominent public.

Process: The Leadership Foundation will present a minimum of 30 artists to an independent jury in December 2009/January 2010. Those who would like to be considered are required to submit an application to the Foundation. The independent jury will choose 10 finalists and one piece of their artwork to be featured in the 2010 opening reception event (“Vernissage”) and art exhibition. Priority will be placed on ensuring a diversity of art form and countries of origin.

Independent Jury:
1. Helene Haaland Mustad (Norway): Mustad is an art consultant with more than two decades of experience and educated in art history.
2. Timothy Persons (Finland): Persons is Director of the Professional Studies Program and a Senior lecturer at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. 
3. Niels Righolt (Denmark): Righolt is Chairman of the Board at CKI – The Danish Centre for Arts and Interculture and the Managing Director and Co-founder of the magazine and communications agency Cultures. 
4. Donatella DePaoli (Norway): De Paoli is an Associate Professor of Cultural Management at the Norwegian School of Management (BI) in Oslo. 
5. Raja Wallenius (Sweden): Wallenius is an artist and illustrator, with a background of more than 30 years as a teacher, headmaster, bureaucrat and head of various organizations in Sweden, Finland and Denmark

How to Apply:

  1. Fill out the jury form(click here to download) and all supplemental forms
  2. Provide images of your work

Instructions for the images
• No more than FOUR images
• Must be digital photos in JPEG format
• Give the name of the artwork, actual size (height x width), and materials used
• Work must be available for sale

Criteria for selection:

  1. Full-time artist
  2. Born outside of the Nordic area and moved to the Nordic areas after age 16 
  3. Reside in Norway, Sweden or Denmark 
  4. Have reputable, proven capability 
  5. Able to submit quality digital images (JPEG) representative of current work that is for potential sale

Leadership Foundation will assume the role of project owner and project manager and have responsibility for the design and implementation of the project. The independent jury will have the task of selecting the art to be chosen and the reference group will be consulted to ensure highest standard in project implementation. Leadership Foundation will cover the costs of transport, installation and insurance for the selected artworks.
